Governorate of Kairouan
"Aghlabid City" Kairouan is a World Heritage Site because of its very rich historical monuments, it is the must-see cultural and tourist destination which attracts more than half of the tourists visiting Tunisia.
The governorate of Kairouan is also the capital of Tunisian crafts, manual weaving of carpets, copper, wood and leather working remain the main craft activity.
Its booming economy is based primarily on agriculture, as a leading producer of chilli and apricot and a major producer of table olives. The manufacturing industry is experiencing notable development which contributes to job creation and the promotion of industrial production, particularly in the food, pharmaceutical, mechanical and electrical industries.
